Black Entrepreneur Launches Footwear Collection for Cancer Survivors and Supporters

Kam Edwards

Nationwide — Kam Edwards, founder of b.c.e. Custom Shoes, is transforming a dream created for her family into a purpose-driven movement. The launch of the b.c.e. Vincere Phoenix™ Collection introduces a custom footwear collection designed to honor cancer warriors, survivors, and families while celebrating the stories behind every step forward.

The story of b.c.e. Custom Shoes began in 2019 when Edwards, a mother of four, recognized she would soon have three children attending college at the same time. Driven by her commitment to creating generational impact, she built the brand with a vision of providing her children with a debt-free start after college — a foundation she hoped would give them greater freedom to pursue their dreams.

Originally centered around custom footwear celebrating HBCU culture, Divine Nine sororities and fraternities, and the legacy represented by these organizations, b.c.e. Custom Shoes grew into a brand where footwear became a way to celebrate identity, heritage, and personal stories.

In 2023, that mission expanded in an unexpected and deeply meaningful way when a customer from Edwards’ Greek shoe collection shared her breast cancer journey. Although they lived hundreds of miles apart, the customer shared photos, videos, and updates throughout her experience — from diagnosis and chemotherapy treatments to the moment she completed treatment and stepped into a new chapter wearing her b.c.e. Custom Shoes.

That connection transformed Edwards’ understanding of the role her company could play. She realized her creations were more than shoes; they had become part of someone’s story during a life-changing journey.

“Seeing how one pair of shoes became part of someone’s journey made me realize the impact this company could have beyond footwear,” said Kam Edwards, who is based in Birmingham, Alabama. That vision became the foundation of b.c.e. Vincere Phoenix™.

Inspired by the legendary phoenix rising from the ashes, Vincere Phoenix™ represents renewal, determination, and the belief that new beginnings can emerge from life’s most difficult chapters. Edwards and her team spent months designing, refining, and perfecting the collection, carefully considering every detail to create footwear that reflected the experiences, journeys, and spirit of cancer warriors.

Scaling Impact: Beyond Footwear

Edwards is pursuing partnerships with cancer hospitals, treatment centers, healthcare organizations, and advocacy groups across the United States to bring the collection into programs that support patients and families.

Looking ahead, Edwards’ vision extends beyond footwear to creating initiatives that help ease the financial burdens many cancer patients and families face. Through strategic partnerships, fundraising efforts, and community support, b.c.e. Vincere Phoenix™ aims to provide assistance with treatment-related expenses, transportation costs, insurance responsibilities, and other unexpected challenges associated with the cancer journey.

The brand will also feature approved fundraising campaigns on its platforms to help connect warriors and families with additional community support.
