Black Womaning After Hours™: The First Pour brings Playing the Game While Black Womaning in Corporate America® off the page for an evening of wine, conversation, and connection on September 26.
Nationwide — On Saturday, September 26, award-winning, Amazon #1 bestselling author Nicole S. Palmer will host Black Womaning After Hours™: The First Pour, an intimate Sip & Read experience for Black women at Boyd Cru Wines in Savage, Maryland. The event is the first in-person Black Womaning After Hours™ experience inspired by Palmer’s acclaimed book, Playing the Game While Black Womaning in Corporate America®, which explores the often-unspoken realities Black women navigate in the workplace.
Rather than a traditional author talk, The First Pour is built around candid conversation. Guests will gather over wine to unpack the workplace rules and survival strategies explored in the book, things Black women often recognize immediately but rarely have space to discuss openly. “The concept grew out of a simple idea: sometimes we need a place where we don’t have to explain the experience before we can talk about it,” Palmer said. “The First Pour gives us the opportunity to have those conversations together, in person, without performing, presenting or networking our way through the evening.”
The event comes as Playing the Game While Black Womaning in Corporate America® has returned to the top of Amazon’s bestseller rankings. The book has earned national recognition, including a 2025 Stevie Award for Book of the Year, and has helped fuel a broader conversation through Palmer’s podcast, Black Womaning in Corporate America®. The evening will include guided discussion inspired by the book’s seven “rules” of Black Womaning in Corporate America®, wine, and an intentionally intimate setting that allows guests to participate rather than simply watch from an audience.
The choice of venue is intentional. Located at historic Savage Mill, Black-owned Boyd Cru Wines reflects a broader goal: creating memorable experiences for Black women while supporting Black-owned businesses and spaces. Palmer, a DC-based author, media entrepreneur, and founding partner and CEO of Delnic Media, has spent years creating content centered on stories and perspectives frequently overlooked in traditional media. Black Womaning After Hours™ marks the next evolution of that work, moving the conversation from books, podcasts, and digital media into real-world experiences.
The event takes place Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Boyd Cru Wines in Savage, Maryland. Attendance is intentionally limited to preserve the intimate format.
