Carvel Watson is founder of Studio2videoProductions, a community based all media production company. Mr. Watson is an expert television Producer/Director with over 25 years in the film making business. Under his leadership Studio II Productions Inc. has produced 12 independent video documentaries entitled: “This Week in African-American History”. Other accomplishments include his production of a documentary on The Black Family Reunion; A Tribute to Dr. Dorothy Height, Founder of “The Black Family Reunion” Nationwide Summer Festivals, entitled an “African Queen Here in America”.
In addition, Mr. Watson’s portfolio includes working as an independent producer for WYBE TV channel 35, covering Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley Area. He also completed a television documentary production on the study of the bagpipes entitled: “Bagpipes, The Rufus Harley Story”; and an interview with Mr. Haylee Geroma, about his independent production of a major motion picture film entitled “Sankofa”, as well as the production of a weekly television series called “Media Advocates”.
As project coordinator/ public relations director Mr. Watson has coordinated hundreds of live events and community based events. To his credit, since 1970: The October 16, 1976 Information Day Community Project, a first of its kind, highly successful day designated solely to inform the public of the many services funded by the government at the city, state, and federal levels.
The Christmas of 1976 Food Marathon was another enormously successful community-based-project. This musical Food- A-Thon was held at the Belmont School located in Philadelphia at Brown and Preston Streets. The event extended from 12:00 noon until 12:00 midnight and included continuous live band music and entertainment for the admission cost of canned goods. Hundreds of turkeys and food baskets were given away as a result of the generous display of brotherhood towards the community.
Mr. Watson also founded the www.blacksbuyingblack.con website, this is a effort for us to find and spend with each other. Another display of his workmanship was unveiled in the capturing of the activities for the Quaker City Funeral Directors in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park Memorial Hall. Rave reviews were received for his production of the Wake-Up Call for Blacks to Stop Killing Each Other Video Documentary Presentation.
In focusing upon the Philadelphia Educational Community, Mr. Watson has documented many activities such as the summer activities of The Philadelphia Clef Club for the Performing Arts; the interactions of professional trainers and students for The Let’s Jam Project, and documenting the activities of the faculty and students of the Montessori Genesis II School.
Carvel Watson is a man of many talents but his passion is education. He created an outreach program for at risk children at The Carson Valley School in Flourtown, Pa. He also made presentations with his horse Hachi Bachi at summer camps and summer children’s activities explaining what part the black cowboys played in the founding of the west, and the part that the Buffalo Soldiers played in opening up the west for the settlers after the Civil War ended as well as their contributions to the rodeo, bulldogging and country and western music. In addition, he has coordinated field trips to television stations to give students a better understanding of all aspects of the television media, and to inspire them to become a part of this industry.
