Nationwide — Jesse Griffin, a 1-year old boy from Indianapolis, was reportedly attacked by another child at a local day care center. Tiffany Griffin, the boy’s mother, says her son was left with horribly swollen lips, eyes, and face.
She then took her son to the hospital, and was interviewed by police who launched an official investigation.
The owner of the licensed day care center, Haben Ghebremichael, told reporters that she was not there during the attack, but that one of her employees says that a 2-year old girl was the one who attacked the boy, and that blood could even be seen on her hands after the attack. She says the girl had a reputation of having bad behavior, but “the extent of the injuries just blows our minds.”
She also told reporters that the two children had been separated after the attack, but the boy had already suffered from major injuries.
“This was truly a sad, shocking and unfortunate event,” she said in an emailed statement. “Our hearts go out to Jesse and his family and are praying for his well-being.”
Meanwhile, the young boy’s mother says that she does not at all believe a 2-year old girl could have caused those type of injuries to her son. She comments, the little girl “was small and she didn’t look like she was the violent type.”
No charges will be filed against the daycare
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said in a news release that a medical expert has confirmed that the injuries inflicted on the boy appear to have been inflicted by another young child, and that criminal charges are not warranted.
In his statement, he said, “The child was reportedly placed in a safe sleeping environment in the same room as an age appropriate child and checked on by the employee periodically. The daycare employee who was responsible for the child’s care has cooperated in the investigation.”
