Actress Janet Hubert Applauds Will Smith’s Performance in ‘King Richard’

Nationwide — After a decades-long feud between Janet Hubert and her former The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Will Smith, she recently expressed her praises to Smith’s performance in the movie King Richard. In a video she posted on Twitter on Sunday, the 65-year old actress even admitted Smith’s new movie was the first time she watched him since their fall out in the early 1990s. She actually had some wonderful things to say after watching it.

King Richard stole my heart, in the same manner that Venus and Serena did on the court! Bravo Will and company. Not since Hidden Figures had I enjoyed a movie so much. I will have to check out all your other movies. A+ a Feel good movie,” she wrote on Twitter.

Back in their Fresh Prince of Bel-Air days, Hubert who played the original Aunt Viv for the first 3 seasons of the show got into a disagreement with Smith which caused her to be suddenly replaced by actress Daphne Reid for the remainder of the series.

Since then, Hubert and Smith had not been on speaking terms. It was only until a year ago during the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special on HBO Max that they have talked about the past and reconciled.

Hubert has seemingly shown that everything is alright between them most recently when she posted the video of her review of Smith’s performance in the biopic King Richard which follows Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams.

“It made me laugh, it made me cry, I was on the edge of my seat,” Hubert said of King Richard on the video she shared. “I was one of those little Black girls who loved playing tennis and then as a young woman watching these women go through what they went through to get to where they are. And if this story is truly true, what a magnificent family and what grace under fire you held.”

“And Will, you did a great job,” Hubert continued. “You were stellar as an actor. You made me hurt with you. What an amazing family. What a remarkable cast. And we need this. All I can say is, ‘bravo. Bravo.’
