Man Charged After Woman Jumps From Moving Car and Dies in Mississippi

Nationwide — Adam Cross, a 57-year-old man from Jackson County, Mississippi, faces a DUI charge after a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, jumped from his moving car and died. Authorities say the two had been drinking and got into an argument before the incident.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident on Gautier-Vancleave Road around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. When deputies arrived, they found 45-year-old Celeste Bellard lying on the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to WLBT, Cross told deputies he and Bellard had been drinking earlier in the evening. While driving home, the couple began arguing. During the dispute, Bellard reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle.

Cross was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. His bond was set at $5,000.

The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full circumstances surrounding Bellard’s death.
