Two Memphis Police Officers Arrested After Being Caught Drag Racing

Albert Green and Raphael Willingham

Nationwide — Two Memphis police officers, Albert Green, 40, and Raphael Willingham, 37, were arrested for allegedly drag racing in their silver Corvettes while off duty. Both men were taken into custody by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and have been suspended while the investigation continues.

According to WREG, a state trooper spotted the two cars speeding along Winchester Road near Hickory Hill Road over the weekend. When the drivers saw the patrol car, they immediately hit their brakes.

The trooper pulled them over and asked Green if he had been drag racing, but Green denied it. Court documents later confirmed that both officers were charged with drag racing.

The Memphis Police Department said the officers’ actions do not reflect the department’s standards and expectations. They remain relieved of duty as the case is under review.

Their arrests came shortly after Police Chief CJ Davis addressed a group of college students about the growing problem of reckless driving in Memphis. “Y’all, we need to get our streets under control,” Davis said, adding that police and the Highway Patrol have been cracking down on drag racing.

Records show both Green and Willingham were later released on $4,000 bond each.
