Nationwide — An African American couple from Newton, Georgia, is expressing their outrage after discovering that their 6-year-old daughter, Aylah, spent several hours at school dressed only in a T-shirt and underwear. Avishaye Daniels, the mother of the child, explained that she sent her daughter to school fully clothed, but when Aylah returned home, she was missing her shorts. Daniels shared her shock and frustration, stating, “I was mad, but I was more shocked than anything.”
The school’s principal, Jeff Henderson, acknowledged the situation but emphasized that it was an unfortunate accident. According to Henderson, the incident occurred during a chalk party at the school, where students’ clothes became dirty. Aylah’s parents were asked to bring her a clean shirt to change into. However, Aylah reportedly forgot to put her shorts back on after changing, and her teacher did not notice that she was missing her bottoms. Henderson explained, “Her shirt was long. It went almost to her knee, and she was not fully exposed or anything like that throughout the day.”
Both school authorities and the Baker County Sheriff’s Office have reviewed surveillance footage to ensure that nothing inappropriate happened to Aylah while she was without pants. Principal Henderson reassured the community that the safety of the students was never compromised during the incident.
Henderson expressed his regret over the situation, emphasizing that the school takes the concerns of Aylah’s parents seriously. He described the event as a learning experience for everyone involved, stating, “It was never intentional – no way, shape, or form, this would ever happen.”
Despite receiving apologies from both the principal and the superintendent, Aylah’s parents remain unsatisfied. They are waiting for a full review of the school footage by local authorities and continue to voice their concerns, determined to see further action taken to prevent such incidents from happening again. Principal Henderson has assured them that steps will be taken to ensure that this mistake is not repeated.
