Nationwide — Darrell “Coach D” Andrews, nationally acclaimed author of The Self-Care Movement and graduate of the nation’s first HBCU, Cheyney University, is issuing a bold and urgent call: Black Americans must take full ownership of their self-care journey — or risk further health crises that disproportionately impact the community.
Statistics continue to reveal devastating disparities—higher rates of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and mental health struggles within Black communities. Coach D argues that systemic challenges are real, but they cannot be an excuse for inaction. His message is clear: Self-care is a revolutionary act.
“Every healthy meal, every therapy session, every moment of rest and reflection is a form of resistance,” Coach D says. “Self-care is how we reclaim our power, protect our future, and honor our ancestors who fought for our right to thrive.”
Our mantra is simple, “Selfcare is a precursor to wellness.” We are creating selfcare DNA’s in organizations, churches, individuals and communities nationally. Virtual and live.
Through his powerful book The Self-Care Movement and his national coaching initiatives, Coach D rallies individuals, churches, schools, and civic organizations to join the movement, turning self-care from a buzzword into a lifestyle.
“Our health is our responsibility,” Coach D declares. “And the time to act is not tomorrow—it’s today. God did not create us to be destroyed; he created us to be victorious!”
