Nationwide — The U.S. House voted 224-198 to censure Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, for interrupting President Donald Trump’s address to Congress earlier in the week. Green stood in defiance as Trump began his speech, voicing concerns on behalf of veterans and seniors, particularly regarding Social Security. His refusal to back down led House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to order his removal from the chamber. While Republicans swiftly moved to censure him, Green remained steadfast in his conviction, stating he acted from the heart and was prepared to face any consequences.
According to MSNBC, a few Democrats like Reps. Jasmine Crockett, Jamie Raskin, Maxwell Frost, and Ayanna Pressley, chose to walk out. However, most of the Democrats remained seated, and leadership figures like Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and Elizabeth Warren offered no significant direction or coordinated effort to challenge Trump’s narrative.
Green’s protest, though controversial, highlighted the growing divide in strategy within the Democratic Party. Some argue that breaking traditional decorum is necessary to energize supporters and demonstrate unwavering resistance, while others believe a more measured approach is required.
