Black Mom Speaks Out After Her Son’s Dead Body Was Found in a Pond

Mom of Laequan Little

Nationwide — Laequan Little, 26, was found dead in a pond at an apartment complex in Greensboro, North Carolina after being reported missing on New Year’s Eve. His mother, Tamika Little, said he was on his way to pick up his daughter when he disappeared.

Tamika grew concerned when she couldn’t reach him. “There was never a time that he did not call me. If I called him, and he missed my call, my son would call me back. That’s what made me worried when I called him, and he didn’t call back,” she told Fox 8.

On January 2nd, police visited the pond at the Reserve at Bridford Apartments where Laequan was last seen driving his black Honda Civic. However, the police initially dismissed the idea that a car could fit in the shallow water. However, Tamika noticed tire marks near the pond and believed something was wrong. She organized a search with over 20 people on January 4th and 5th.

Tamika then reached out to the Rapid Compassion Collective, a nonprofit that helps find missing people. Using an underwater drone, divers located Laequan’s car in the pond. On January 8th, Guilford County divers recovered both the car and Laequan’s body.

“I’m glad that he’s found, but I wanted my son found sooner rather than 13 days. I was very upset… To get a phone call that they pulled my son out… was devastating for me,” Tamika said.

Tamika remembered his son as a selfless person and a devoted father. She said, “He would give his last to anybody. He was a great father. He loved his daughter to death. Would do anything for her. Didn’t want to be without her.”

Moreover, Greensboro police are continuing their investigation into Laequan’s death, and Tamika hopes they will provide answers that bring closure to her family.
