Mom Pleads Guilty After Shooting Her 12-Year-Old Son in the Head

Nationwide — Briasha Stroud, a 29-year-old mother from Cincinnati, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to attempted murder after shooting her 12-year-old son in the head during a 2025 home incident. Prosecutors said the child survived but suffered severe, life-altering injuries.

According to WAFB, the shooting took place on January 26, 2025, inside a residence. Prosecutors said Stroud shot her son during the incident and also ended up with a gunshot wound herself.

Emergency crews responded after a 911 caller reported that a woman had shot her child and was overdosing. When police arrived at the home, they found Stroud and her son inside a garage, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

In court, prosecutors told the judge that the boy survived but sustained catastrophic injuries. They said the damage was permanent and that he would not be able to live a normal life moving forward.

Prosecutors also raised the possibility of future legal action depending on the child’s condition. They said Stroud could still face a murder charge if he dies later from the injuries, even after her guilty plea.

Stroud remains in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center. Her sentencing is scheduled for July 23, where she could face a lengthy prison term.
