Meet the Black Woman Empowering Plus-Size Women With Her Journals and Coloring Books

Nationwide — Brittany Washington, founder and CEO of My Beautiful Fluff, is celebrating a decade of entrepreneurship, more than 100 in-person community events, and the continued growth of an award-winning body-positive lifestyle brand that empowers women to embrace themselves unapologetically. Founded in 2015, the brand has grown into a nationally recognized, certified disability-owned and Black-owned business with more than 40,000 community members across its platforms. As the company marks its 10th anniversary, she is preparing for a busy summer and fall event season that will bring the brand directly to communities across the country.

The inspiration behind My Beautiful Fluff began with Brittany’s own life experiences. Nicknamed “Fluffy” as a child by her mother, she later transformed that nickname into a movement centered on self-love, visibility, and confidence. After struggling to find clothing that represented women like her—including being unable to find a T-shirt larger than a 3X and selecting her wedding dress from a catalog because local stores did not carry her size—she decided to create the representation she could not find. Armed with what she describes as “a credit card, a dream, and a lot of determination,” she launched My Beautiful Fluff and built a brand dedicated to helping women see themselves reflected and celebrated.

Today, My Beautiful Fluff offers handcrafted wooden earrings, apparel, tote bags, beauty accessories, coloring books, journals, and the newly released entrepreneurship journal, Dream Out Loud. Many of the company’s most popular products were inspired directly by customers and community members who wanted to see themselves represented. The brand’s newest collection, Your Fluff Is Not a Flaw — It’s the Feature, reinforces the message that beauty, worth, and confidence are not determined by size. Several of the company’s body-positive books and journals are now available through major retailers, including Walmart and Barnes & Noble.

Brittany openly shares her personal journey because she knows many women face similar struggles. As a teenager, she lost more than 70 pounds in six weeks but discovered that happiness did not come from becoming smaller. That realization helped shape the philosophy that drives her company today. Living with fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, and the lasting effects of a career-ending shoulder injury, she has continued building the business while advocating for self-love, disability inclusion, and resilience.

Family has also played a central role in the company’s success. Her husband, Jacques, contributes to product development, prints select products in-house, and helps manage event operations across the country. Their son Joshua, who has high-functioning autism, has grown up alongside the business and is now learning artificial intelligence and graphic design while preparing to enter high school as a dual-enrolled college student. Together, the family has helped transform My Beautiful Fluff into a thriving business that has connected with thousands of customers through more than 100 festivals, wellness expos, vendor markets, and women’s empowerment events nationwide.

Over the past decade, the company has earned significant recognition for both its products and community impact. Brittany has been recognized as an award-winning CEO, a Black History Maker, and the recipient of the Luxe Body Positive Brand honor from Size Overrated Magazine. My Beautiful Fluff has been featured on HSN Online, selected for the TikTok Small Business Accelerator, showcased on a California billboard, and supported through a transformational microloan from Lift Women’s Foundation. Those opportunities helped expand the company’s product offerings and strengthen its mission of creating affirming products for women who have historically been overlooked by mainstream brands.

As My Beautiful Fluff enters its second decade, Brittany is expanding her impact through her new entrepreneurship journal, Dream Out Loud, while continuing her commitment to community engagement through a packed schedule of summer and fall events. Upcoming appearances include Black Girl Wellness Fest in Chicago, Shop Black Fest Chicago, Black and Bronze Fest, the Sickle Cell Throwdown, and the I AM She women’s empowerment event. For her, these gatherings are more than business opportunities—they are opportunities to connect directly with the women who inspire the brand every day. Through every product, event, and conversation, My Beautiful Fluff continues to champion a simple message: confidence begins with embracing who you are today.
