Nationwide — Chadwick Boseman’s brothers are challenging his widow’s control over his $3.8 million estate, asking a court to remove her as administrator. Kevin and Derrick Boseman claim Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman has not properly managed the actor’s assets or kept the family updated since his death.
The brothers filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court, saying Taylor has not completed important duties nearly six years after Chadwick died from colon cancer at age 43. They want the court to appoint someone else to oversee the estate.
Chadwick died in 2020 without a will, which led to court proceedings over his assets. His estate includes movie royalties, image rights, investments, insurance policies, personal belongings, and multiple bank accounts valued at more than $3.8 million.
According to the Daily Mail, a 2022 court order divided control of the estate between Taylor and Chadwick’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman. The order gave his parents rights to half of the assets, while Taylor managed the other half.
Kevin and Derrick claimed Taylor has not completed the distribution of the estate or provided a full financial report. They also said unresolved issues remain involving Chadwick’s insurance policy, bank accounts, SAG-AFTRA residual payments, and personal property.
The brothers said the delays have prevented their parents from exploring possible business opportunities tied to Chadwick’s name and legacy. They also claimed they have tried multiple times to discuss the matter with Taylor but have not received a response.
In their filing, Kevin and Derrick asked the court to require Taylor to provide all estate-related contracts, complete the distribution of assets within 30 days, and cover legal fees connected to the dispute. They also requested that attorney Jason Rubin replace Taylor as administrator.
The brothers further asked the court to stop Taylor from making new business decisions involving Chadwick’s estate without approval from the family. They said the lack of transparency has raised concerns about the handling of the actor’s assets.
Chadwick Boseman rose to worldwide fame as King T’Challa in Marvel’s “Black Panther.” He also starred as baseball legend Jackie Robinson in “42” and received a posthumous Oscar nomination for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
