Nationwide — Chase Matthews, a 17-year-old African American teen from South Fulton, Georgia, has secured acceptance letters from 155 colleges across all 50 states, with over $6 million in scholarship offers. She is an honor student and band member and has maintained an ‘A’ average while serving as a role model.
“It’s all for my grandparents and parents,” Matthews told WSB-TV. “I’ve seen their struggles with affording medicine as well as accessibility. I want to fix that problem in the Black and low-income communities in Atlanta.”
Westlake High’s interim principal, Gregory Minnis, praised Matthews for her exceptional dedication. Her college advisor, Sean Moore, credited her success to consistent hard work.
Though Matthews won’t receive the full $6 million, the scholarships will cover her entire education. She is considering offers from Florida A&M University, Howard University, and Ohio State University.
