Nationwide — Chris Brown, 35, has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros., claiming defamation and emotional distress over the docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence. The R&B singer alleges the October 2024 series falsely portrayed him as a serial rapist and abuser. In a lawsuit filed on January 21, 2025, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Brown alleges the October 2024 docuseries falsely accused him of sexual assault. He claimed the series highlighted unproven allegations from multiple women, including one from Jane Doe, who claims Brown raped her in 2020, according to TMZ.
Brown’s legal team has denied these allegations, asserting that Doe had been discredited in earlier legal proceedings, including a dismissed 2022 lawsuit. They also highlight a 2021 restraining order against Doe for alleged violence.
The lawsuit argues that the documentary damages his reputation, focusing on past accusations while ignoring his personal growth since a 2009 assault charge involving Rihanna. His attorneys accuse Warner Bros. and the producers of misleading the public for profit, rather than reporting the truth.
Brown is seeking $500 million in damages, stating he plans to donate part of the amount to sexual abuse victims. He is also demanding a jury trial for defamation, emotional distress, and unauthorized use of his name and likeness, claiming the documentary has also harmed his career and business opportunities.
