Black Nurse Debuts New Children’s Book Called “Nurses Are Superheroes Too”

Nationwide — In celebration of National Nurse Week, author C.P. Mitchell will be highlighting nurses and the instrumental role that nurses play in our healthcare system. She is using her platform to educate children on the various career paths in the nursing profession. This effort is an extension of her debut children’s book Nurses Are Superheroes Too: Heroes War Scrubs and Stethoscopes originally released in 2020.C.P. Mitchell was inspired to write this beautifully illustrated book to inspire the next generation, offer representation to children of all backgrounds, and encourage them to take a closer look at the career path many deem as modern-day superheroes.

About the author:
C.P. Mitchell, originally from California, moved to Texas to pursue a career as a Pediatric Nurse. She knew from a young that she wanted to be a nurse. C.P. Mitchell comes from a large family, the middle child of 7, and grew up in a loving environment filled with joy and good times.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and worked as a Medical Technologist (MLS, ASCP) for five years before branching back into nursing. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. In her tenure being a nurse, she has worked as an Oncologist Nurse, a Women’s Health Nurse, and an Infection Control Nurse, and currently works as an Industrial Nurse where she still focuses on preventing infections. Being a nurse has truly been a dream come true.

C.P. Mitchell is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), Infusion Nurses Society (INS), and Association for Vascular Access (AVA). She’s a member of her local PTA where she volunteers by reading my books to children in elementary schools, daycares for storytime. Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and hearing what they want to be when they grow up brings her so much joy.

She is also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
