Black Postal Worker from Atlanta Shot and Killed While Delivering Mail

Nationwide — Dequavious Graves, a 31-year-old African American postal worker from Atlanta, Georgia, was shot and killed while delivering mail in DeKalb County. His family is mourning the sudden loss of a kindhearted son and musician.

Graves had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for three years, running the same route every day. Neighbors remembered him as friendly and cheerful, often accepting snacks or water and always greeting everyone with a smile.

His mother, Shannon Graves, described him as a “momma’s boy” who could make anyone laugh. “Baby boy, if you’re listening to your mama, know that we all love you and miss you so much,” she told WLBT.

Outside his postal work, Dequavious was passionate about music. He performed with his cousin, Mosahkere Andrew, supporting him as a producer and artist. “He was just a kindhearted, hardworking, selfless person,” Andrew said, recalling how his cousin supported him in every way.

Shannon Graves called the shooting a “cowardly move” and pleaded for anyone involved to come forward. “I was like, ‘This is not real,’” she said. “I kept telling them, ‘This is a dream, ya’ll telling me my child is dead. No way, there’s no way.’”

Authorities continue to investigate the case. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering up to $250,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Graves’ killer.
