Black Doctor Launches New Educational Kit and Wellness App for Children to Address Health Inequity Among Minorities

Nationwide — As the nation commemorates Black History Month, a new initiative is answering Dr. King’s prophetic call by addressing one of the most persistent — and preventable — forms of injustice: health inequity among children and minority communities.

Get Healthy Kidz™, a hands-on health education kit and program created by Dr. Dona Cooper-Dockery, MD, author, speaker, and community health advocate, is also the founder of Cooper Wellness Center, Cooper Internal Medicine, and FoodAMed Vegan Restaurant. She’s launching a February awareness and outreach campaign focused on improving childhood health outcomes—starting in some of the most medically underserved regions of the country, including Hidalgo and Starr Counties in South Texas, which are consistently ranked among the least healthy counties in the United States.

Designed specifically for children ages 4–12, Get Healthy Kidz™ transforms health education from lectures into engaging, story-based learning experiences that children actually enjoy. The program teaches lifelong habits through interactive activities, games, music, movement, and cooking lessons that empower children to choose healthy behaviors.

MyBestHealthPal App is for adults who want to stop guessing what to do next about their health and find reliable support to improve their wellbeing — without extreme programs or pressure.

It’s a one-stop resource to help:

• Increase energy, improve nutrition, and practice daily habits
• Support healthy blood pressure, blood sugar, or cholesterol
• Lose weight in a sustainable, realistic way
• Learn what actually works — and why
• Feel supported by education, inspiration, and community

“Health injustice doesn’t begin in adulthood—it begins in childhood,” says Dr. Dona
Cooper-Dockery. “When children are never taught how their bodies work, how food fuels them, or how rest, movement, and environment shape their future, inequality is already at work. Get Healthy Kidz™ and MyBestHealthPal exist to change that,” she adds.

The Get Healthy Kidz™ Educational Kit is an interactive health program currently used by parents, families, churches, homeschoolers, and community organizations — making it simple to implement in classrooms, after-school programs, VBS, summer camps, health fairs, or seminars. The kit centers around Dr. Cooper’s 10 principles of health framework, G.E.T.H.E.A.L.T.H.Y.

Unlike most health apps, MyBestHealthPal is guided by a board-certified physician and rooted in lifestyle medicine—not trends or quick fixes. It emphasizes hands-on learning and helps people connect health concepts to real-life choices—especially in communities disproportionately affected by obesity, diabetes, and preventable chronic disease.

It is high-time to take action into your own hands with a trusted physician-guide walking alongside you with:

• Medical expertise
• Practical daily tools
• Easy-to-understand health education
• Community encouragement to keep you going

How to Participate

This February campaign invites parents, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and communities of faith to honor Black History Month not only by remembering the past, but also by investing in the future health of children and adults if we are truly going to transform the next generation.

Dr Donna comments, “Dr. King challenged us to confront injustice wherever it exists. Then let us ensure that our people have the tools to live healthy, full lives—it’s not optional — it’s a moral responsibility.”
