Nationwide — President Donald Trump is demanding the removal of his portrait from the Colorado State Capitol, claiming it is “purposefully distorted” and worse than Barack Obama’s. He criticized the artist and also blamed Governor Jared Polis for keeping it on display.
Trump also blamed Colorado Governor Jared Polis for allowing the portrait to remain, saying he should “be ashamed of himself.” He demanded that the painting be taken down, insisting that many Coloradans are also unhappy with it.
In response, a spokesperson for Governor Polis expressed surprise at Trump’s interest in the Capitol’s artwork.
“The State Capitol was completed in 1901, and features Rose Onyx and White Yule Marble mined in Colorado, and includes portraits of former Presidents and former governors. We appreciate the President and everyone’s interest in our Capitol building and are always looking for any opportunity to improve our visitor experience.”
