Nationwide — Donna Robinson, an African American woman from Cincinnati, Ohio has been appointed as the new police chief for Cincinnati State, making history as the first Black woman to lead a local law enforcement department.With 33 years of experience in the Cincinnati Police Department, Robinson will now oversee safety across the college’s four campuses with over 11,000 students and staff.
“I am so honored to be named to this position and so encouraged to see women becoming chiefs,” she said, according to Fox 19. “It sends a powerful message to women who are already in a department or who are considering law enforcement as a career.”
Originally from Cincinnati and raised in Lexington, Robinson earned a degree in criminal justice from Eastern Kentucky University. She joined the Cincinnati Police Department in 1990 and worked her way up to lieutenant.
Throughout her career, Robinson earned a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University and completed the prestigious FBI National Academy Program.
Moreover, Robinson lives in Cincinnati with her husband, Maurice Robinson, who is an assistant chief of the Cincinnati Police Department.
