10-Year-Old Boy Killed After Crashing His Bike into an Oil Tanker, “He Deserved Better”

Nationwide — Dsiyahn Whitmore, a 10-year-old African American boy from Nashville, Tennessee, sadly passed away after being left alone on a minibike that he crashed into a tanker truck outside a gas station. His family is searching for answers about how it happened.

On the night of the crash, Dsiyahn was with friends at a gas station on Main Street. While adults went inside, he was left unattended on a gasoline-powered minibike. According to Metro Nashville Police, he somehow accelerated onto the road and hit the rear side of a passing tanker truck. He died at the scene.

His older sister, Mariyana Mayfield, said he was supposed to be with friends buying candy. “He was not driving the motorbike. He was left unattended, and he did what any child would do out of pure curiosity,” she told Action News 5.

Both the police and the family are trying to find out who owned the minibike and who was responsible for him that night.

“He was abandoned. He was left alone on the street by some unknown person, and he deserved better,” Mayfield added.

Dsiyahn was a fourth grader at Nashville Northeast Elementary. He loved music, football, and making people laugh. His family described him as playful, adventurous, and full of life.

“He was always the class clown. He was the light in so many people’s lives,” Mayfield said. “He made an impact on everybody that he encountered. Though he lived a short time, he was a very curious and adventurous child.”

Now, his loved ones are left to grieve. His younger siblings looked up to him, and the family is struggling to cope with the loss.

“I wouldn’t be the woman I am today if he didn’t make me a big sister,” Mayfield said. “There will always be a hole that only he can fill, but I know he’s not coming back.”
