Nationwide — Du’wan Morgan, a 14-year-old African American teen from Glasgow Village, Missouri, was shot and killed while playing video games in his bedroom after gunfire erupted between two groups of teenagers outside his home. Police say he was not the target.
According to KSDK, the shooting happened around 6 p.m. in an urban neighborhood in north St. Louis County. Du’wan was sitting in his room when two bullets came through the window, striking him. He died before help could arrive.
Neighbors told police they heard shouting before several gunshots were fired. Two groups of teens were reportedly arguing in the street, and after the gunfire, several masked individuals were seen running away and jumping fences.
“There were no adults — just kids,” a neighbor told police. Police believe Du’wan was an innocent victim caught in the crossfire. His mother and two brothers were inside the house during the shooting but were not injured.
Du’wan had recently started high school after graduating from eighth grade five months earlier. His family described him as quiet, kind, and someone who loved nature and fishing. “He was minding his business, doing nothing,” a family member said. “Just sitting in his room. And now he’s gone.”
The loss has left his family devastated. “She hasn’t been eating. She hasn’t been sleeping. She’s completely broken,” said Du’wan’s aunt, Erica Davis, referring to his mother. “This is a horrible nightmare.”
Police have not made any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing. Du’wan’s family is urging anyone with information to come forward.
“My family will never be the same,” Davis said. “We want justice for my nephew. He didn’t deserve to lose his life like this.”
