Nationwide — Erihanna Sackor, a 19-year-old woman, was arrested at Heathrow Airport after officials found nearly $567,000 worth of cannabis hidden in her suitcase. She later admitted she had agreed to smuggle the drugs for payment.
According to the Daily Mail, Sackor was stopped on June 2 while passing through customs. Border Force officers discovered 14 kilograms of vacuum-sealed cannabis inside her luggage. At first, she denied that the suitcase belonged to her, but officials confirmed it matched her passport details.
During questioning, Sackor said she had been contacted on social media with an offer of £20,000 if she carried the drugs into London. Her trip to Thailand, including flights, hotels, and spending money, had been fully paid for by those who recruited her.
Prosecutors told the court that Sackor had been living in a YMCA hostel in west London and had fallen behind on rent. They also said she was threatened with explicit messages and disturbing images if she refused to go through with the plan.
Her defense lawyer described her as vulnerable, with a difficult background and little understanding of the criminal operation. She had been recruited by a drug gang that exploited her circumstances and pressured her into carrying out the scheme.
Judge Amanda Pinto KC acknowledged Sackor faced threats abroad but ruled she had knowingly agreed to take part. The court ruled she played a willing role despite not holding power within the drug network.
Sackor pleaded guilty to importing Class B drugs. She was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge.
