New mixtape by “the Diverters” (Devin “Florida St. Devin” James and Nathan “the ReUse Guy” Savage) is Public Education and Theme Music for the 50th Anniversary Earth Day Celebration
Memphis, TN — “ReUse Mode” is the first of it’s kind throughout the world and is fusion of hip-hop and public education to articulate the details of several aspects of Circularity and Sustainability, often reduced down to Recycling for the 50th Anniversary Earth Day Celebration. The mixtapes’ main theme is landfill diversion and is delivered with a hilarious quote throughout songs, in a chant “we don’t do no landfills” channeling the southern vernacular of the Memphis natives. “Gotta Go,” is an ode to the junk in your backyard that needs “to go” and opens with a comedic skit while the song Double Shifts exemplifies how hard they work often times doing community cleanups for two shifts. Here’s a link to the music video.
The mixtape was released by Refurban, an innovative waste solutions company headquartered in Memphis that was recently recognized with an award by GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum as “the Most Disruptive Adaptive Reuse of an Abandoned Property” for their renovation of the Old Kroger Bakery manufacturing plant. Built in the 1940s, this landmark was left blighted for decades before Refurban made it their headquarters and have since transformed the property into the “The Adaptive Reuse Complex” (ARC), boasting 130,000 sq. ft. of ReUse on 2.1 acres. The entire facility is an enormous example of ReUse; every piece of furniture, all equipment, tools, and all materials were reclaimed and repurposed keeping them true to their brand.
The two brothers are handling business too; as Refurban is contracted with the State of Tennessee helping them collect, store, transport and process tires for the State Park’s longest walking trail soon to be made out of waste tires. Filling a major void in the waste industry infrastructure; the facility is one of the state of Tennessee’s largest non-conventional Material Recovery facilities and is the only Minority Business Incubator/Accelerator for sustainability-focused startups.
