NYC Black Nurse Sadly Killed by Her Husband After Returning From Family Reunion

Nationwide — Gabrielle Forman, a 30-year-old African American nurse from New York, was shot and killed by her husband in their apartment just hours after returning from a family reunion in Georgia. Her husband, 37-year-old Jadet Forman, then died by suicide, with police investigating the shooting as a murder-suicide. The couple had been going through a divorce when the shooting happened.

Forman had recently traveled to Georgia to celebrate her mother’s birthday and her sister’s move to college. She had only been back home for a few hours when the shooting happened Tuesday afternoon. Her family said she had been enjoying time with loved ones and had no idea that she would not get another chance to see them.

According to the New York Post, Forman was a nurse who worked at a hospital in Saratoga and was training to become a nurse practitioner. She also planned to open her own clinic. Her family described her as smart, loving and caring. Her father, Owen Sterling, remembered her as a “beautiful soul” and said he could not have asked for a better daughter.

Shortly before the shooting, Forman was talking with her mother on FaceTime when her husband reportedly entered the apartment and took the phone from her. Her mother became concerned after the call ended and asked Forman’s brother to check on her. As he approached the apartment, he reportedly heard gunfire. Police later found both spouses dead inside their second-floor home.

The couple had been married for about two years and were in the process of divorcing. Police said Jadet Forman shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. He used a ghost gun, an untraceable firearm without a serial number that can be assembled from separately purchased parts. Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin said the weapon would be illegal for anyone to possess and that investigators are still looking into how he obtained it.

Authorities said the husband had no criminal record and police had never received a 911 call from the apartment before the shooting. However, Forman’s relatives said he had shown violent behavior in the past. The investigation remains ongoing as her family mourns the loss of a nurse they described as a devoted daughter, sister, and loved one.
