Nationwide — Harriet Kay Recker, an 82-year-old woman from Hilton Head, South Carolina, was arrested after she allegedly shot and killed her husband inside an assisted living facility. She is facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
According to WLBT, deputies responded to the Preston Health Center in Hilton Head Plantation around 11:30 a.m. Friday, after receiving reports of gunfire. The center is part of a retirement community that provides medical care for elderly residents.
When deputies entered a patient’s room, they found Harriet Recker standing beside her husband, 81-year-old Dennis Recker, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities took Harriet Recker into custody and transported her to the Beaufort County Jail. She is being held without bond as she awaits her first court appearance.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing. No details have been released about a possible motive.
