A Hospital Needs Help Identifying Two Patients Hooked Up to Breathing Tubes

Nationwide — Los Angeles General Medical Center is asking the public to help identify two unconscious men on breathing tubes who have been treated there this week after arriving without any form of identification. The hospital, which is run by the L.A. County Department of Health Services, says the men came in on separate days and staff have been unable to learn their names or locate any family members.

According to KTLA, the first man, listed only as “John Doe,” was brought to the hospital on Nov. 9 after being found on North Algranti Avenue in Sylmar. Hospital staff estimate he is about 36 years old, around 6 feet 2 inches tall, and approximately 178 pounds, with blue eyes and dark hair. He has a tattoo on his left forearm and has been intubated and on a breathing tube since he arrived.

The second unidentified man, also recorded as “John Doe,” was admitted on Nov. 12 after he was discovered unresponsive near 559 S. Ceres Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. He is described as 35 years old, about 6 feet tall, and roughly 158 pounds, with brown eyes and a black Afro hairstyle.

Hospital officials say social workers have so far been unable to confirm who either man is or connect them with relatives. Photos released by the facility show the first patient, admitted on Nov. 9, and the second, admitted on Nov. 12, side by side as part of the appeal for help.

Anyone who believes they may recognize either patient is urged to contact Los Angeles General’s Social Work Department. For information about the first man, or for general weekday inquiries, people are asked to call clinical social worker Cesar Robles at 323-409-6884, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

For information about the second patient, the hospital asks that callers reach out to clinical social worker Cristol Perez at 323-409-4317, Sunday through Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Additional contact numbers include the main Social Work Department at 323-409-5253, the after-hours emergency social work line at 323-409-6883, and the weekend on-call line at 323-409-5254.
