Nationwide — Hureleyon McLean, a 72-year-old man from Broward County, Florida, was shot and killed on Thanksgiving day following a dispute over loud music. McLean’s wife, Rose, is furious when their neighbor, who admitted to shooting McLean, has not been charged after claiming self-defense.The incident happened around 3:30pm at an apartment complex about 30 miles from Miami. McLean had gone to the neighbor’s apartment to address the complaint about his music when the confrontation escalated.
“I heard the gunshot, ‘boom,’ and I just fly to the door. I see my husband lying face down in the blood,” McLean’s wife told WSVN.
She said the neighbor showed no remorse for the shooting and even threatened her.
“No, he wasn’t sorry. He was just standing, looking at me with his gun in his hand the same way,” Rose said. “And I go up to him and say, ‘Why did you shoot my husband? Why?’ And he said to me, ‘If I didn’t shut my mouth, he would shoot me, too.'”
Police confirmed the two men had argued before the shooting. The neighbor, who reportedly cooperated with detectives, admitted to shooting McLean but claimed it was in self-defense.
McLean’s wife strongly disputes the claim, saying her husband did not have any weapons when he was shot in the head.
McLean, a father and grandfather, had been celebrating Thanksgiving with his family before the tragic incident. Paramedics could not revive him. Friends and family later held a prayer circle outside the apartment.
“It’s crazy how mankind has gotten to a place where we don’t honor life like we should honor,” said Pastor Tracy McCloud, the victim’s pastor. “Who would have thought something tragic like this would happen?”
No charges have been filed yet as police continue their investigation. The Broward County State Attorney’s Office said they will decide whether to press charges once the investigation concludes.
