10-Year-Old Black Boy Found Dead in Pond After Leaving Home While Sleepwalking

Nationwide — Jackson S. Georgari, a 10-year-old African American boy from Kansas City, Missouri, was found dead in a pond after he reportedly left his home while sleepwalking. Police said he disappeared overnight, and search crews later found his body during a search.

The local police said Jackson was last seen around midnight near the 1100 block of Northwest Vivion Road. His family told investigators he had a history of sleepwalking and believed he walked out of the house while still asleep, according to KMBC.

His family said Jackson had wandered away during previous sleepwalking episodes but was always found safe. They believed he may have followed a familiar path near wooded areas, streams, and ponds that he recognized from riding the school bus.

Authorities searched for Jackson using K-9 units, drones, and assistance from several law enforcement and emergency agencies. His body was later found in a pond near Briarcliff Village, about half a mile from where he was last seen.

Firefighters attempted to revive Jackson, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His family also said he did not know how to swim.

Police said the case is being investigated as a standard death investigation and that there are currently no signs of foul play. The medical examiner will determine the official cause and manner of Jackson’s death.

As the family grieves, they and their pastor have asked the community for prayers and support.
