16-Year-Old Black Teen Sadly Dies After Being Shot After a High School Football Game

Nationwide — JaKamryn Price, a 16-year-old African American teen from Belzoni, Mississippi, was tragically shot and killed Friday night after a high school football game. His death is now under investigation by state and local authorities. He was a student at Humphreys County High School and a member of the school’s football team. Police said the shooting happened after the game, but investigators have not shared details about what led to the shooting or where exactly the shooting occurred.

The Belzoni Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Authorities have not released information about a possible suspect, motive, or arrests. The school district shared a statement mourning the teenager’s death and expressing sympathy for his family and friends. School officials said Price was an important part of the school community and would be deeply missed by students, staff, and teammates.

“His presence was an important part of the Humphreys County High School family, and he will be deeply missed throughout our school community,” the district said, according to WLBT.

The district also plans to offer additional grief counseling and support services to students and staff following the shooting. Officials asked the community to support Price’s family as they cope with the loss. “We ask that everyone keep JaKamryn’s family, loved ones, teammates, and the entire Humphreys County High School community in their thoughts during the days ahead,” the district said.
