Jamal Jackson

Nationwide — A tragic incident in New Orleans left 15-year-old Jamal Jackson critically injured when an SUV crashed into his bedroom, with authorities attributing the accident to a suspected drunk driver. The crash took place early Sunday morning at approximately 4:02 a.m. at a residence located at the intersection of Cerise Avenue and Chef Menteur Highway.

According to Fox 8 Live, the impact of the crash shook the household awake, with the teenager’s younger cousin recalling the chaos that followed. “All we heard was, ‘Stand still! Stand still!’ They were yelling, ‘Get out the car! Get out the car!’” The scene was one of confusion and panic as family members scrambled to understand what had happened.

The victim of this devastating crash was identified by his family as 15-year-old Jamal Jackson, a 10th-grade student at Edna Karr High School. Jamal is well-known at his school, actively participating in the football team, band, and drill team. His involvement in these activities makes the incident all the more heartbreaking for those who know him.

Following the crash, Jamal was rushed to the hospital, where his condition remains critical. His family shared with local news outlet WVUE that they have not been allowed to visit him in the intensive care unit, adding to their distress. His grandmother, Alicia Patterson, revealed that Jamal is currently on a respirator, struggling to breathe on his own due to the injuries he sustained.

The driver of the SUV, 53-year-old Cedrick Marshall, was identified by police at the scene. According to authorities, Marshall stayed at the crash site and was arrested after allegedly failing a field sobriety test. His actions led to the serious charges he now faces.

Marshall is currently receiving medical treatment for possible injuries at a hospital. Upon his release, he is expected to be charged with first-degree vehicular negligent injury and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Fortunately, no other residents of the home were injured in the incident, but the trauma of the event will likely have lasting effects on Jamal’s family and the community.
