Caregiver Arrested for Stealing $38K Worth of Jewelry From Elderly Woman

Nationwide — Jasmine Durham, a caregiver from Memphis, Tennessee, faces theft charges after police say she took nearly $38,000 worth of jewelry from an 83-year-old woman she cared for at an assisted living facility. She reportedly pawned several items.

The case surfaced on December 12, 2025, when officers responded to a call at Trezevant Manor Assisted Living Facility on Highland Street. The elderly woman reported that several valuable jewelry pieces had gone missing from her apartment, according to WLBT.

The woman required a caregiver due to declining health. Her family hired Durham on September 19, 2025, to help with daily care and support at the facility.

Investigators said seven pieces of jewelry disappeared during Durham’s nearly three months on the job. The items were valued at $37,857, based on information provided by the victim.

About two weeks after the report, an investigator reviewed online pawn records and found that rings linked to Durham had been pawned in late October. Police later confirmed that several pieces were sold to local pawn shops on October 24 and again on December 9.

Authorities recovered four rings during the investigation. Durham, 32, has been charged with felony property theft and financial exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable person.

She was booked into the Shelby County Jail and is being held on a $3,500 bond.
