Sister of Ahmaud Arbery Graduates, Dedicates Master’s Degree to Her Late Brother

Albany, GA — More than a year after Ahmaud Arbery was gunned down while jogging in Glynn County, Georgia, his big sister Jasmine Arbery has earned her Master’s degree and has dedicated her accomplishment to her late brother in a heartwarming tribute. Most recently, Jasmine received her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Albany State University. She was also ranked at the top of the psychology department.

She managed to achieve the feat despite grieving for her brother’s sudden loss and at the same time, fighting for justice. She took to Instagram to celebrate the moment.

“Whew! A journey is not great unless you find what you seek. My journey was filled with many challenges that included working two jobs, a natural disaster, the tragic loss of my brother, a pandemic, giving birth, anxiety, grief, and issues with my financial aid. But I am proud to say those challenges equal the factors that will make me an excellent therapist. I have the opportunity to offer support based on real-life experiences,” she said.

“I ooze #BlackGirlMagic,” she continued.

Jasmine concluded her post by honoring the memory of her younger brother, dedicating her achievement to him.

“I dedicate this degree to my brother #AhmaudArbery. The ceremony is held on your birthday [May 8th] and you always believed in me! #BlackLivesMatter”
