13-Year-Old Black Girl Collapses, Dies During Middle School Basketball Game

Nationwide — Jemimah Audu, a 13-year-old African American girl from Fargo, North Dakota, collapsed during a school basketball game and later died at a local hospital. Her community now mourns the loss while waiting for answers about what happened.

Jemimah collapsed during a game at Discovery Middle School on November 21, according to WLBT. Staff rushed to help, and she was quickly taken to Sanford Medical Center, where doctors tried to revive her.

Family friends said Jemimah had no known health issues before the incident. An autopsy is currently being conducted at the University of North Dakota to determine the cause of her sudden collapse.

A GoFundMe set up by a family friend has raised over $12,000 to help with her final arrangements. Loved ones thanked the emergency room staff for their efforts in trying to save her life.

Moreover, Jemimah is remembered as joyful, respectful, energetic, and someone whose presence lifted everyone around her. Her funeral was held Monday at Northview Church, where friends and family gathered to honor her memory and support each other through the loss.
