Nationwide — Jimmy Chase, an African American father from Mercer County, New Jersey, was tragically stabbed to death in front of his three young sons while teaching them how to ride bikes. The suspect, Davon Holloman, has been charged with murder and weapons offenses.
Chase, 40, was outside with his three sons on January 8 when the deadly confrontation happened. According to People, the Prosecutor’s Office says Holloman, 35, got into a physical altercation with Chase that quickly turned deadly.
Part of the confrontation was recorded on a cellphone. Authorities say the video shows Chase’s children trying to break up the fight as Holloman allegedly attacked their father. The boys witnessed the violence and were left traumatized by what happened.
Chase’s sister, Latoya Chase, described the killing as “senseless.” She said her brother was a devoted father who was focused on spending time with his children when the incident occurred.
“Jimmy was a good man who played a major role in our community,” she said. The family shared that his children are now struggling to cope with the sudden loss of their father.
A GoFundMe campaign was created to help cover funeral expenses and support the children’s future and education. It has so far raised over $10,500.
Authorities arrested Holloman on January 22. He has been charged with first-degree murder, multiple weapons offenses, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He remains in custody as the investigation continues. Friends and neighbors remember Chase as caring, involved, and deeply committed to his family and community.
