Nationwide — John Connaughton, a 51-year-old man from St. Petersburg, Florida, is in police custody after being accused of hurling bottles filled with urine at a local business, causing significant property damage and allegedly threatening two individuals with a skateboard. He faces multiple charges including felony battery, criminal mischief, and two counts of aggravated assault, according to court documents.
After the alleged act, two men chased Connaughton down. When they caught up to him, he allegedly lifted a skateboard above his head in a threatening manner, as if he intended to strike. Both men, along with a third-party witness, told investigators they saw Connaughton use the skateboard to intimidate the victims.
St. Petersburg police officers arrested Connaughton shortly after the confrontation and took him into custody. He is now being held at the Pinellas County Jail with a total bond set at $22,500 — broken down into $10,000 for each aggravated assault charge, $2,000 for felony battery, and $500 for criminal mischief.
Court records show that Connaughton is being represented by a public defender. Additionally, the affidavit notes that Connaughton is a registered sex offender and appears in Florida’s public registry.
