Nationwide — Jo’Majze Larry, a 15-year-old African American boy from Anderson, Indiana, has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for his role in a failed targeted shooting that killed 26-year-old Dayla Swain. He was convicted of murder and several other charges tied to the 2025 shooting.
A Madison County jury found him guilty in June after prosecutors accused him of being involved in the deadly attack at Sonny Ray’s Café in Anderson. His convictions included murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, criminal organization activity, and dangerous possession of a firearm.
During his sentencing hearing, Judge David Happe ordered Larry to serve 50 years for the murder conviction. The judge added another 50 years because of a criminal organization enhancement connected to the case, according to Fox 59.
Madison County Prosecutor Andrew Hanna said Larry can petition for a sentence reduction after serving at least 20 years in prison. The option is available under Indiana law for juveniles convicted of murder and does not include credit time earned through good behavior or educational programs.
Investigators said Larry was one of eight people connected to Mickey Cobra Nation, also known as MCN, a criminal organization that originated in Chicago. Authorities said members of the group carried out a planned shooting at Sonny Ray’s Café on Feb. 2, 2025.
Police responded to the café around 3 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Officers found Swain with a gunshot wound to the chest and took her to Community Hospital, where she later died.
Swain was reportedly not the intended target of the shooting. Authorities said the group was trying to kill a key witness involved in the criminal case against Donovan Harris, but Swain was struck during the exchange of gunfire.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from nearby cameras and found signs of gunfire coming from different areas of the parking lot. Investigators also recovered 12 spent 9mm shell casings and a .45-caliber extended handgun magazine containing ammunition at the scene.
After the shooting, Larry traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with co-defendant Rashawn Samuels. His parents reported him missing because he was 14 years old at the time.
Police later located Larry after finding a social media post where he allegedly wrote, “I’m not coming back till this murder case [over].” He eventually turned himself in to Anderson police on March 2, 2025.
The other people accused in the case include Ja’Brawll Thomas, Kyree Craver, Rashawn Samuels, Rejon Smith, Geno Moffett, Javeayon Johnson, and Javeaian Johnson.
Craver was previously sentenced to 90 years in prison for his role in the case. Samuels is awaiting sentencing and could face up to 176 years, while Thomas is scheduled for trial in 2026. The Johnson brothers are expected to begin their jury trials in September, and authorities are still searching for Moffett, who remains wanted.
