Nationwide — José Luis and José Armando Cevallos, conjoined twins from Ecuador, died on October 15 at age 27 after suffering a cardiac emergency while hospitalized. Their deaths were announced on social media, prompting an outpouring of support from followers who had watched them share their lives online.
The brothers gained more than 60,000 followers on Instagram through their account, @siamesesdelecuador. They shared videos of their daily routines, answered questions from viewers, and showed what life was like for them as conjoined twins. Their posts helped them connect with people who wanted to learn more about their experiences.
Their final updates came just days before their deaths. On October 12, they posted a video showing them loading items into a car trunk together. The clip offered a glimpse of their everyday activities before news of their passing reached their online community.
Fernando Carrillo, a close friend, later explained what happened during an appearance on the Spanish television program Y Ahora Sonsoles. According to People, he said the twins went to the hospital after José Luis suffered cardiac arrest. Doctors managed to stabilize him, but José Armando experienced a heart attack minutes later. Carrillo said both brothers died after the medical emergencies.
Their deaths have left their family grieving. Damián, their brother, spoke about their parents’ reaction during the television program, saying they were devastated by the loss. He also struggled to describe the depth of their grief. “I have no words to describe how my parents feel,” he said in Spanish.
The twins’ social media team also paid tribute to them, thanking everyone who supported the brothers and followed their journey. The message remembered their smiles, positive outlook, and determination to achieve their goals. It also expressed gratitude to those who helped make their dreams possible and showed them love throughout their lives. The tribute ended with a saying that reflected their outlook: “Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and disability is no impediment to being happy.”
