Fenwick’s idea was born while shopping and buying products on Amazon. “I realized how easy it is to shop and buy products online as a consumer,” he says. “I thought—why isn’t there a simple, fun platform that allows people to shop and buy stocks online the same way?” That spark led him to create an interface that mimics the familiar online shopping experience, but instead of buying products, users are purchasing ownership in companies—a process known as investing.
A master at simplifying complex topics, Fenwick has dedicated his career to helping African Americans and people of color actively participate in the stock market. “Only 9% of Black wealth comes from the stock market, compared to 30% of white wealth,” Fenwick explains. “There’s no way to significantly close the wealth gap if we don’t increase our participation in the stock market. It’s about making your money work for you—passively.”
Since launching ShopForStocksOnline.com, the response has been tremendous. People who once believed investing was too complicated—or that they had to be rich to buy stocks—are now confidently shopping and buying stocks online.
But Fenwick didn’t stop there. Understanding today’s unstable job market, he also developed a robust referral program that allows members to generate monthly residual income. “With all the layoffs, downsizing, and furloughs, everyone needs an income stream outside of a job,” says Fenwick. “And residual income is the best kind of income there is.”
His inspiration comes from personal experience. Over 20 years ago, despite being a top performer, Fenwick was laid off from his six-figure corporate job. That experience drove his lifelong mission to never rely solely on a paycheck again.
“I’d rather pay members who refer New Members than spend thousands on ads to get New Members,” Fenwick says. “People recommend movies, restaurants, and concerts all the time and never get paid for it. We pay our members a monthly residual income when they refer new members!”
