Black Grandma Celebrates 12 of Her Grandchildren Graduating High School at the Same Time

Nationwide — An African American family is celebrating a rare milestone as 12 grandchildren of Julia Baker, an African American grandmother from Leland, Mississippi, all graduate from high school in the same year. The graduates attended schools across multiple states but came together to mark the achievement as one family.

Julia Baker said she felt overwhelmed seeing all 12 grandchildren reach graduation at the same time. “All of my grands, and I’m still here to see it. Thank you! All of them, I tell you, nothing but love,” Baker told KWTX.

Despite studying in different states, the grandchildren shared one common milestone in the same graduating year. The family gathered in one place to celebrate their success and support each other through the moment.

Andrew Jackson, who studied in Texas, said the family presence made the ceremony more meaningful. “They got all of us back here for this ceremony. All the family is here supporting us. We all love it… and we thank everybody for it,” he said.

Another graduate, Dillan Flowers, who was homeschooled, said the support from family played a big role in his journey. “Even when I feel like I’m in my most vulnerable, my family always loves to help build me back up to become the man I always wanted to be,” he said.

Family members said the gathering reflected their pride in the next generation and the values they carry. Baker described the moment as a blessing and praised the graduates for their discipline and character.

“They’re doing something with their life. They’re not taking it for granted, and they don’t take us for granted. Now, this is a blessing — respectful children,” she said.
