Nationwide — Kamala Harris has not decided whether she will run for president again in 2028, leaving the door open to another White House campaign. During a recent podcast interview, the former vice president said Democrats should focus on the 2026 midterm elections before looking ahead to the next presidential race.
She addressed the speculation during an appearance on Keke Palmer’s podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, released on October 13. Near the end of their conversation, Palmer asked whether she planned to seek the Democratic presidential nomination again. Harris laughed before answering, “I haven’t decided yet. I will, I promise.” She then shifted attention to the upcoming elections, stressing that Democrats must first succeed in 2026. “’28 doesn’t matter if we don’t do ’26 right,” she said, emphasizing the importance of addressing the political challenges facing the country now.
Although she has not announced her next political move, Harris has continued supporting Democratic candidates and discussing issues that affect American families. During the interview, she highlighted concerns about health care, housing costs, and cuts to federal programs. According to WBLS, she also urged Black voters to hold elected officials accountable for their decisions rather than treating voting as simply a civic duty. Her message comes as Democrats prepare for the November 3, 2026, midterm elections, when voters will determine which party controls Congress.
Harris has also campaigned for Democratic candidates in several politically important states, including Michigan, Nevada and Georgia, according to The Associated Press. Her appearances have drawn attention because these states could also play a significant role in the 2028 presidential election. Since losing the 2024 race to Donald Trump, she has remained involved in Democratic politics and continued advocating for voting rights. Her political future has attracted interest since she left office in January 2025, particularly because her historic presidential campaign made her the first Black woman and first Asian American woman to lead a major U.S. party’s presidential ticket.
However, speculation about another campaign has not always pointed toward a return to the White House. A September report from Axios surveyed eight former Harris advisers about her chances of running again. Five believed she was unlikely to enter the 2028 race, two were unsure, and one expected her to campaign for the presidency again. The findings suggest that even people who previously worked with her remain uncertain about her plans.
A separate report from The Wall Street Journal raised questions about the personal cost of another presidential campaign. The publication reported that Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, had privately expressed concerns about the toll of the 2024 election. However, he is expected to support her if she decides to run again. For now, Harris has made no formal announcement, and her continued work for Democratic candidates has not confirmed whether she intends to seek the presidency. Until she makes a decision, the possibility of a 2028 campaign remains open, while she continues to emphasize the importance of the midterms.
