Nationwide — Kelvin Luebke, a 22-year-old man from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is under investigation after posing as a teenager and enrolling at a local high school for 19 days. He says the situation was a “misunderstanding” caused by confusion over his age and foreign documents.
According to Local 12 News, Luebke reportedly used the name “Kelvin C. Perry, Jr.” to attend White Bear Lake Area High School. He told officials he had identification from Africa that listed him as 18 years old, even though court records show he is 22.
School administrators said he enrolled as a homeless unaccompanied youth, a status that allows students to join classes immediately without proof of residency or school records. During his short time there, Luebke attended classes and even joined football tryouts.
Authorities later discovered his real age through court documents. White Bear Lake’s superintendent confirmed that Luebke provided an international birth certificate when registering, but the school was unaware of the discrepancy until police began looking into his case.
Investigators also found that this was not the first time Luebke attended school under a false identity. He was previously enrolled in the Forest Lake Area School District between January 2022 and 2023 under similar circumstances.
Police have not filed charges yet but are considering fraud, forgery, and unlawful conduct involving minors. The case has raised concerns about verification gaps in school enrollment for unaccompanied youth.
Luebke maintains that he did not intend to deceive anyone, saying, “I had a different birth certificate on my other thing in Africa.” He insists he believed his enrollment was legitimate.
