Gospel Singer Kirk Franklin Apologizes for Controversial Outfit, Dance Moves at Jamaican Concert

Nationwide — Kirk Franklin has apologized to the Christian community for his outfit and dance moves during his performance at a Jamaican concert. In a YouTube video posted this past December, the gospel singer addressed the controversies that sparked reactions during his 2024 performances.Franklin performed at the Fun in the Son concert in Jamaica last April, where his outfit drew criticism from local ministers. In his recent 16-minute YouTube video, he explained that he and his team chose the outfit to suit the weather but didn’t realize it would be viewed as disrespectful, according to WBLS.

“I’ve spent most of my career dancing and moving around and jumping on stage that I didn’t know that I would ever do anything that would ever offend anyone in any community, but it did. And because it did, I sincerely apologize,” Franklin said.

Franklin, who is now 54 years old, expressed regret over offending anyone, emphasizing his commitment to personal growth and humility. He said he remains open to learning from others and wants his actions to reflect his faith.

“It doesn’t matter what my goal and intent is, if I’m louder than the message of Jesus, then I failed,” he continued.

Franklin is a highly awarded gospel artist, with 32 Grammy nominations, 20 wins, and several other accolades, including BET and GMA Dove Awards.
