Nationwide — Kwame Kilpatrick, the former Detroit mayor who was convicted and sentenced to years in prison for federal corruption, has started a new business. Despite having been released from prison, Kilpatrick reportedly still owes the city of Detroit and the IRS more than $4.7 million.Kilpatrick says his new venture is called Movemental Ministries, and will include Saturday services, Bible studies, and workshops.
“It’s a virtual ministry, so we’ll be everywhere,” Kilpatrick said about his recent venture, which started from prison when he got an idea from a book he was reading at that time, according to Deadline Detroit.
Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in prison after being convicted of 24 federal felony counts. He only served over 7 years of his sentence because then-President Donald Trump granted his early release from prison.
With his rough past, Kilpatrick said he hopes he could use it to reach more people to spread his message.
“The craziest thing is that’s exactly what Movemental is about,” Kilpatrick told Fox2 Detroit. “That is my heartbeat. Be authentic. I’ve been what you’ve been through, I’ve smoked before, I drank, we know some of the issues I’ve had in the public press, but I don’t do any of that now and it’s not because I got perfect. It’s because I’m at truth.”
