Nationwide — In a tragic turn of events, a 10-year-old African American girl from Orlando, Florida fatally shot a 41-year-old woman during a confrontation between adults back in 2022. And now, her mother, 33-year-old Lakrisha Isaac, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Isaac faced charges of manslaughter and culpable negligence. She pleaded no contest in May 2024, avoiding a possible 20-year sentence but receiving a 5-year prison term instead.
In court, Rodgers’ sister, Sharetta, expressed her frustration, saying, “The slap on the wrist and the pat on the back that the court has given you today is not okay. It’s not okay to take a life and this is not justified. And this is not justice for Lashun Rodgers.”
Isaac’s attorney revealed that the 10-year-old remains in juvenile detention. The girl was arrested after the shooting, but as of May 2024, no charging decision had been made.
Rodgers’ mother, Laura Chambliss, shared her grief in court, saying, “I love and miss her so much. God is the final judge.”
