Nationwide — Linda Hill, a 41-year-old African American woman, and her 12-year-old son, Kardi Jackson, were found slain inside their Hazel Park, Michigan home on September 1st. Police arrested a 43-year-old man from the nearby city of Pontiac the following day in connection with the killings.
Officers discovered the bodies late Monday afternoon. Both victims had traumatic injuries, and reports indicated wounds to their necks, according to People. By Tuesday evening, Hazel Park police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant and arrested the suspect. His name has not yet been released.
Family members described Hill as a woman who cared deeply for others. Her sister, L’Keisha Whitfield, created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. It has so far raised over $11,000.
“Linda was loved by everyone who knew her,” Whitfield wrote. She also remembered Kardi as “the sweetest child” who enjoyed video games and time with family.
Kardi’s older brother, 21-year-old Demontez Hill, said the loss has left him devastated. “He’s like a younger version of me, always playing around and having fun,” he said. A former teacher of Kardi’s also paid tribute online, describing Kardi as a kind young man, while his school released a statement offering condolences.
Police have not shared a motive but believe the case is isolated and does not pose a threat to the community. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
