Los Angeles, CA — Former NBA star recently sat down with CNN’s Anderson Cooper to respond to comments made by L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling, when he said that Johnson should be ashamed of himself because of he has AIDS, and that he has not done anything to give back to the community.During the interview, Magic responded that his “whole life is devoted to urban America.” He added, “I just wish he knew the facts when he’s talking.” He also revealed that he has donated more than $15 million to HIV/AIDS organizations, and has created “thousands and thousands of jobs in urban America.”
Magic then insisted that Sterling is desperate. “He’s a man who’s upset and he’s reaching. He’s reaching. He’s trying to find something that he can grab on to help him save his team. And it’s not going to happen. It’s not going to happen,” he said.
Magic added, “I’m going to pray for the man because even if I see him today, I’m going to say hello to Donald and his wife as well. I’m not a guy who holds grudges and all that. Yes, am I upset? Of course! But at the same time, I’m a God fearing man and I’m going to pray for him and hope things work out for him.”
Sterling, who was banned for life from the NBA after making racist comments to his girlfriend, also made some negative references to Magic Johnson in those remarks. He asked his girlfriend to stop taking pictures with Magic Johnson and “minorities”.
During Sterling interview, he apologized for his comments and asked “Am I entitled to one mistake in my whole life?” But then he got himself in more trouble with more controversial comments when he started his rant about Magic Johnson.
