White Woman Who Darkened Her Skin and Identifies as Black Plans to Move to Africa

Martina Big white model identify as Black

Nationwide — Martina Big, a white woman from Germany who identifies as Black, says she and her husband are preparing to move to Africa. The couple has drawn controversy for darkening their skin through hormone injections and claiming a black identity.

Big, 36, and husband Michael Eurwen, 38, use Melanotan, a synthetic hormone that makes the skin darker. She also goes by the Swahili name Malaika Kubwa, meaning “Big Angel,” after taking part in a baptism ceremony in Africa, according to the Daily Mail.

The former glamour model is also known for her extreme cosmetic surgeries. She has 32T breast implants and has had her lips enhanced. She plans to get a buttock augmentation and widen her nose before moving, saying she wants the surgeries done in Europe first.

According to Big, they originally planned to move years ago but were delayed by the pandemic. They are now considering Kenya or Namibia after receiving invitations from fans in several African countries. However, her husband is concerned about income since most of her modeling work is based in Europe and the US.

Big says she feels a strong connection to Africa and claims to have been warmly welcomed during her past visits. In 2018, during a trip to Nairobi, she says locals recognized her and asked for selfies.

She made headlines in 2019 after appearing on a UK talk show where she claimed doctors told her that her future children would be born black. She repeated this belief on Facebook. Many social media users questioned the logic, pointing out that skin color is determined by genetics.

Married in Hawaii in 2018, Big and Eurwen continue to identify as black. She says she’s focused on finishing her surgeries and hopes to move soon, saying, “Every time I’ve visited Africa though, I’ve felt at home and overwhelmed by the response.”
