— “Journey from Books for Kids to Cartoons” —

Francis W. Minikon Jr., Chief Operations Officer at Melanin Originals, LLC and author, John W. Ensley II

Washington, DCMelanin Origins LLC, a children’s book company that writes biographies of African-American pioneers and other historical leaders throughout the world will be providing a full screening of their latest animation project at the Global Impact Film Festival this Saturday, August 26th, 2017. After receiving massive support throughout the nation from parents and educators alike regarding the value and rich content provided in Melanin Origins’ learning materials, the company’s executive leadership decided it was time to create the concept of Cool Genes®.Melanin Origins’ cartoon show, Cool Genes®, is the notion that every child is born with a unique ability embedded in their DNA to achieve a level of excellence and greatness. The show features Melanin Origins’ version of Booker T. Washington, Ida B. Wells, and many more historical figures who operate in a fictional environment, yet embody the very same virtuous characteristics as their respective ancestor.

Cool Genes® began on YouTube and made its way to local film festivals such as the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase. The cartoon went on to win 2nd place at the Dallas Black Film Festival, and this weekend Cool Genes® will be featured at the Global Impact Film Festival during the open panel discussion: “Impacting the World through Film”.

The foundation of Melanin Origins’ learning materials is deeply rooted in the pillars of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy – a teaching that recognizes the importance of including students’ cultural references in all aspects of learning according to Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings. The Global Impact Film Festival will take place at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel located at 999 9th St NW, Washington, DC 20001.
